An Operations Container or Defence Container is an ISO-standard-based, protected, and technically equipped functional space – mobile, transportable, and deployable independently of existing local infrastructure.

The container must fit military trailers and be designed according to the project-specific transportability profile for road, rail, sea, and – if required – air transport. It must function under the harshest field conditions and be immediately ready for your specialized systems after handover. Therefore, logistics and technology must be considered together from the outset.

If a container is to be transported regularly by container ship after modification, its subsequent transportability must be considered early in the planning phase. Structural changes to a sea container can invalidate its original CSC approval. Subsequent re-certification is generally possible, but requires that the modification is structurally prepared and documented for inspection.
This includes, among other things, clean design drawings, reliable static assessments, and a design that does not unnecessarily impair subsequent stackability and load-bearing capacity. Especially for defense containers with cutouts, additional doors, technical openings, or special superstructures, a technically well-thought-out design of the outer shell is therefore crucial. If CSC approval is missing, sea transport is still possible, but often only as significantly more complex break-bulk cargo.

A shelter container combines the structural robustness of an ISO container with a technical interior that creates immediately operational protection and working conditions – for personnel, systems, or both. Application scenarios range from mobile command posts and protective containers for sensitive electronics to air-conditioned rest and accommodation modules in the field.

Command containers and situation management containers create structured workspaces and coordination areas for tactical staffs, operational commands, and liaison elements.
Deployable as a mobile command center and capable of autonomous operation, they are equally suitable for Bundeswehr (German Armed Forces) deployments, disaster relief exercises, and major emergencies in civil protection.
The equipment includes defined workstations, prepared media, IT, and communication interfaces, as well as air conditioning and access control as required. As a mobile command post, the container enables immediate operation upon arrival at the site – without complex on-site installation.

Therefore, power, data, and media connections in the container are not generically placed, but positioned and executed precisely as required for the subsequent system. This creates a robust foundation for plug-and-play concepts, allowing the specialized technical equipment to be added precisely.
Depending on the project, attachment points, feed-throughs, reinforcements, and mounting provisions can also be included ex-works. These include, for example, floor and wall mounts, lashing rings, airline tracks, hooks, or reinforced sub-structures. Even more complex requirements such as internally prepared support structures or statically tested crane systems can be integrated into the container structure. The goal is not merely to deliver an empty shell, but a technical infrastructure that is prepared for subsequent completion.

Especially in disaster relief or for urgent special requirements, not only technical quality matters, but also response speed.
If a solution is already well-planned, the implementation of a custom-built container can be significantly faster than in many traditional series productions. This is made possible by direct access to various container models directly from the port, as well as a closely integrated network of logistics, steel construction, product development, painting, electrics, and technical inspection.
Especially for prototypes, smaller quantities, or time-critical projects, the process can be flexibly adapted to urgent requirements. This is particularly relevant where additional infrastructure is needed at short notice and rigid standard processes would be too slow.


Not every application automatically requires a classic 20-foot or 40-foot container. Depending on the transport route, service life, available space, installation technology, and subsequent deployment, or low cube containers may also be suitable. What is crucial is not only what technical equipment is to be installed, but also how the container will later be transported, set up, and used.
Especially in the military sector, choosing the right format can have significant impact on logistics and operational capability. For instance, if containers need to be picked up by specific vehicles after unloading ashore or used in height-restricted environments, a low-cube model might be the better choice. Therefore, selecting the basic container model is not a secondary consideration, but an integral part of the overall functional planning.

Key factors include insulation standards, HVAC technology, energy generation, storage solutions, water supply, wastewater management, and the actual load profile during operation.
