A 20ft insulated container, often referred to in the industry as a Non-Operating Reefer (NOR) , is the ideal solution for storing temperature-sensitive goods without the need for active cooling. Originally designed as a refrigerated container with the cooling unit deactivated or removed, this container type stands out due to its high-quality sandwich insulation made of polyurethane foam and an interior lining of hygienic stainless steel or aluminum.
This construction guarantees excellent thermal inertia: in summer, the interior remains significantly cooler than in a standard steel container (dry van), while in winter, protection against frost and condensation (sweat water) is maximized. Thanks to its standardized ISO dimensions and robust frame structure, the 20ft insulated container is not only craneable and stackable, but also offers a durable, low-maintenance alternative for storing food, pharmaceuticals, or highly sensitive electronics. Companies benefit from first-class insulation combined with attractive acquisition costs compared to active cooling systems.

The 20ft insulated container uses closed-cell foam insulation, such as PU or PIR, to significantly reduce heat exchange with the environment. This keeps the internal temperature stable over long periods without the need for an external power supply.
Unlike standard shipping containers that have been retrofitted with insulation, this design prevents condensation and reliably protects goods from moisture and extreme temperature fluctuations. This construction is particularly suitable for:

The 20ft non-working reefer is a former refrigerated shipping container whose cooling unit has been permanently decommissioned or removed. The factory-fitted high-performance polyurethane (PU) foam insulation remains fully intact, typically with wall thicknesses of 80–100 mm. As a result, the container offers a much more stable internal climate than a standard dry container, with zero ongoing energy costs for active cooling.
Key features:
Note: This product does not replace active cooling. It is suitable for applications where temperature fluctuations need to be dampened or where a frost-protected, thermally stable storage space is required.

A refrigerated container — often too Reefer container called — is a ISO container with integrated cooling unit, which stores or transports goods at specific temperatures. Typical areas of application include the food industry (transportation of fruit, vegetables, dairy products, meat) and gastronomy, where perishable goods must be kept constantly cool. Even with Events Refrigerated containers (e.g. festivals, catering) serve as mobile cold stores for drinks and food. In the pharmaceutical and chemical industries They are used to store temperature-sensitive drugs and active ingredients. Refrigerated containers are even used in mechanical engineering to test components at defined temperatures. Wherever a reliable cold chain is required, refrigerated containers are the first choice.
